SERMONIBUS ANIMALIS

Beginning in 2019 during the Inktober challenge, this illustration series' main goal was to depict a wide variety of animals, listing their two-word scientific name / binomial nomenclature.  But within the second word (the species name), a pun or play on words is formed.  The pun transforms the identity of the animal and enhances the otherwise realistic drawing with a certain level of personality and whimsy.

The result was Sermonibus Animalis (or “Animal Conversations”) - a menagerie of various creatures from our

animal kingdom, sprung from a vintage zoological catalogue, but not without a certain level of anthropomorphic absurdity.
