It's a world of abbreviations! Earlier this month, I headed to IFS - The Independent Filmmakers Showcase - and the eighth film festival for 'When Comes the Rain.' Since this was another local event, I took a short drive to the ever-so-fancy W Hotel in Hollywood for one of their fancy after parties. I had driven by the W numerous times while on Hollywood, but never had a reason to visit. It was nice finally attending, and schmoozing with other filmmakers.
The next day, I headed to the Beverly Hills Music Hall for the animated shorts program. It's a lovely little arthouse theatre with a nice nostalgic vibe. The screening went well, and I met two another animators from the program: Neil Sopata, who was there with his film Peace, and Nate Gabaeff with his film The Cat Burglar - both very funny and engaging works - check them out!
And speaking of festivals, the Feedback Film Festival posted the review sessions from their screening earlier this month, so you can see what the audience thought about 'When Comes the Rain.' It's not terribly long, but they also posted an interview I did with their festival team. If you want to learn more about the making of the film, give it a good read!
As of right now, for the first time in a long time, I have no other festivals lined up.. (whatever will I do?!) I still have a few submissions pending, but nothing confirmed - which I think is fine for now. When Comes the Rain has had a great festival run, and I'm grateful for all the experiences it's given me. But I'm also anxious to finally make some progress with new films and other projects, and to keep expanding my body of work. Maybe a little festival break is the perfect opportunity to get back into full-time creating.
In other news on the animation front, Iast week marked my second annual attendance for Netflix's FYSee event, where they have panels, Q&A's, and art exhibits of their various shows. This event had panels & screenings for two of Netflix's breakout animated series - Bojack Horseman and Big Mouth. I've been a longtime Bojack devotee, but was unfamiliar with Big Mouth - so it was fun seeing the cast and creators of both shows talk about them at length. Plus there were more fun interactive art exhibits, and food and wine! What more could you want?
I should be posting again soon, but who knows what I'll have to talk about - the horizon looks relatively clear for a little while at least!
